Elbo Room $6 one of the best prices in town

The Elbo Room always pour a great Manhattan. We have been there maybe 4 - 5 times and it is consistently strong and great tasting. And the price is one of the best in town -$6. 

The bar is dark with little candles. We like that. Your eyes have to get used to the darkness and I sat in the booth a bit hard 'cause I couldn't see the seat. Lots of fun movies to look at and many people talking happily. Upstairs is always getting ready for some music. 

We just have our Manhattan and move on to a restaurant within walking distance. This time it was a fancier mexican place around the corner called Regalito Rosticeria. 

Skylark $7

We have been to Skylark three times in the past 10 years. The Skylark was the first place where we had Manhattans so they are special to us. We had gone in for a drink on our date night and asked the bartender for his preference. We fell in love with the Manhattan immediately. Hmmm, so good. The initial bartender had attitude which is fine when he produced a great drink. Second visit was similar. The third visit produced a great Manhattan, but the place was empty. The bartender said he didn't drink. That always make me a bit nervous. Still, he poured a great drink. I think he may have looked up the drink in the booklet but the end result was potent and left us feeling great. 

Afterwards, we walked to the East German restaurant Walzwerk on South Van Ness. This is a great place to eat and the beer is authentic. We are heading to Berlin so the waiter suggested several fun places to visit and good beers to drink. That's the kind of waiter I like.
